The Bristol Seed Library will open for the 2024 season on Monday, March 11 @ 5:30 PM, Bristol Public Library, 5 High Street, in Bristol. The Seed Library consists of flower, herb and vegetable seeds. Seeds are available to Bristol residents free of charge. Residents may receive up to 5 seed packets per season per adult resident. A valid adult Bristol Public Library card is required. Library cards are free to Bristol residents and are available at Circulation Desk at Bristol Public Library or at Manross Memorial Library in Forestville. The Seed Library has been a cooperative venture between Bristol Public Library and Bristol Department of Public Works. Contributions have also been received from the UConn Master Gardener/Ocean State Job Lot Seed Distribution program, Pinehurst nursery, and the Bristol Garden Club. “Supporting the Seed Library goes along with our mission of promoting community involvement and healthy living,” states Kathleen Carroll, President of the Bristol Garden Club. The Friends of the Bristol Public Library have also donated their time to assist with seed sorting and other preparatory work to help the Seed Library open for the season.
Following the opening of the Seed Library at 5:30 PM in the library lobby, there will be a Seed Starting workshop in Meeting Room 1 presented by Mark Gostkiewicz of Tri-Gable Lea Farm in Colchester. There is no charge for this program.
