Connecticut Art & Artists: From En Plein Air to Avant Garde

Come join us at the Bristol Public Library for a captivating event showcasing the diverse history of art in Connecticut! From traditional En Plein Air paintings to cutting-edge Avant Garde installations, this exhibition celebrates the rich artistic heritage of our state.

This presentation explores a sampling of artistic traditions that have flourished in Connecticut in the 19th & 20th centuries and continue today. Beginning with an overview of the Lyme Art Colony that developed at Florence Griswold’s boardinghouse, hear from Dr. Parsons about other CT artists such as Hartford-affiliated artists like Frederic Church of the Hudson River School and still life artist Charles Ethan Porter. Finally, Dr. Parsons will share her recent work with contemporary artists at the Florence Griswold Museum, where they continue to push the boundaries and definitions of art while broadening the narrative of art history. Presented by Dr. Jennifer Parsons of the Florence Griswold Museum.
